Since 2024 we have run over 15 advice events and provided advice to nearly 100 people. We currently have 6 volunteers trained with NEA Level 3 qualifications.
As well as energy advisors, we also rely on volunteers to contact potential venues, organise sessions, and carry out research. We have plenty of opportunities for new volunteers, no matter your skills and experience.
If you would like to help with delivering advice or organising sessions, please email energyadvice@croydoncommunityenergy.co.uk.

Top Tips to Support You
If you’re struggling with bills -
-
Talk to Debt Free London if you’re struggling with bill payments
-
Check if you are eligible for government benefits or other financial support
-
Apply to Croydon Healthy Homes or Household Support Fund for support from Croydon Council
-
Check if you are eligible for the Priority Services Register - this means you can get additional support and information from energy companies
-
Make sure you understand your energy bill - is it correct, and are you getting the best deal? CCE’s advisors can help talk you through your bill.
-
Make sure you understand your heating controls - CCE’s advisors can help you ensure you are getting the most out of your heating.
If you want to reduce your energy usage -
-
Check for recommendations on your Energy Performance Certificate.
-
Replace old light bulbs with modern LEDs - this can save you over £100 per year
-
Get your heating serviced annually and bleed radiators if they aren’t heating up properly. An annual service does cost money - but it could save you much more in the long-run.
-
Thick curtains can help reduce heat loss through windows. Consider insultating film for single-glazed windows as a cheap option if you can’t replace them with modern alternatives.
-
Fill cracks or gaps which might let the heat out. BUT - make sure your home is still properly ventilated to avoid moisture and damp!
-
If you have a hot water cylinder, check whether it has at least 80mm of insulation.
-
Consider using a microwave, air-fryer or slow-cooker instead of the oven where you can, and avoid over-filling the kettle.
Everyone’s home and situation is different - so for the best advice, please talk to one of our advisors. We provide personalised advice tailored to your situation, and can help refer you for additional support if needed.
